Webinar: Media Perspectives in Latin America

06/05/2021 @ 20:00 - 22:00

On the 6th of May, three scholars will take us through different media narratives within Latin American journalism. Each of them will be giving a presentation related to their fields of expertise, which then will be followed by a fruitful discussion open to the audience.
Our first speaker, Dr. Bruno Takahashi, associate professor and research director at the Knight Center for Environmental Journalism at Michigan State University (https://comartsci.msu.edu/our-people/bruno-takahashi), will give a presentation on news media coverage of environmental affairs in Latin America.
This will be followed by a lecture from Teresa Bo, correspondent for the Al Jazeera Media Network (https://www.aljazeera.com/author/teresa_bo_150119150642175), who will talk about the war on drugs in Colombia and Latin America in general.
The third lecture will be given by Dr. Genner Llanes-Ortiz, lecturer and member of the Centre for Indigenous America Studies at Leiden University (https://www.universiteitleiden.nl/…/centre-for…), who will give a presentation titled: ‘Beyond the “Noble Savage” – heeding Indigenous voices in International Media.’
During the final discussion, the floor will be opened to questions and jointly, we hope to deepen our understanding of Latin American perspectives as constructed by the media.
The webinar is open to anyone, we hope to see you there.
