Welcome to the East Asia Committee!
The East Asia Committee is committed to fostering an inclusive, engaging, and professional environment for students with an academic or personal interest in East Asia. Whether students have chosen the East Asia track within the International Studies program or are simply eager to explore the region’s languages, cultures, and global influence, our committee aims to support and inspire their journey.
Our goal is to strengthen community ties by connecting students across all years and backgrounds. We do this by organizing a wide range of interactive academic, cultural, and social initiatives. These include collaborative study sessions, where students can exchange knowledge and prepare for exams together in a supportive setting, as well as professional and educational events that broaden perspectives and foster deeper engagement with East Asia.
One of the highlights of our year is our collaboration with PSCORE, an international NGO advocating for North Korean human rights. This event offers students a rare and impactful opportunity to learn firsthand about human rights, activism, and life under authoritarian rule leaving a lasting impression on all who attend.
We also celebrate Lunar New Year, one of our most anticipated events, which brings the community together to honor East Asian traditions through food, performances, and cultural exchange. It’s an evening that blends festivity with learning, and reflects the diversity and warmth of our committee.
Located in The Hague, we actively seek collaboration with East Asian Studies in Leiden and professional organizations such as embassies, NGOs, and businesses. By building these networks, we aim to bring more East Asia-related opportunities both educational and professional to Leiden University’s Campus The Hague.
Through everything we do, we aim to empower students to explore, connect, and grow academically, culturally, and professionally while having.
We hope to see you soon!
