Roma Movie Screening & Discussion – Latin America Committee

25/11/2019 @ 18:00 - 21:00

Hola a todxs!

We’re happy to invite you to the movie screening of Roma organized by the Latin America committee in cooperation with Dr. Maria Gabriela Palacio Ludeña.

If you have access to a Netflix account, you must have come across the movie Roma by now. This is your opportunity to watch this brilliant movie (again) together with your peers and dive even deeper into an analysis of it and its context in the following discussion by:
– our amazing politics Latin America lecturer Dr. Randal Sheppard (Mexico specialist and fantastic art commentator)
– the one and only Dr. Maria Gabriela Palacio Ludeña (focuses on domestic work in Latin America though the lenses of gender, race, and ethnicity)

A bit about the movie: Roma was written and directed by the Alfonso Cuarón, who is, by the way, the first Latin American director to receive the Academy Award for Best Director. The movie is a semi-autobiographical take on Cuarón’s upbringing in the Colonia Roma neighborhood of Mexico City. It follows a year in the life of a middle-class family’s maid named Cleo in the early 1970s and touches upon many interesting socio-political events of that time period.

When? November 25th at 18:00
Where? Wijnhaven Room 2.01

So, get yourself some popcorn and lean back to enjoy Roma and the following discussion by Dr. Randal Sheppard and Dr. Maria Gabriela Palacio Ludeña with us.

Nos vemos pronto!
