Join the BASIS Africa Committee for our movie screening of “Timbuktu” (2014) next week, on November 11th. The movie is set in Mali, following the lives of Kidane’s nomadic cattle-herding family whose survival is increasingly placed at risk by Jihadists occupying Timbuktu in 2012. While the Jihadists try to impose the strict Sharia law on the people of Timbuktu, Kidane and his family just want to continue living in peace.
In 2017, “Timbuktu” was ranked the 12th-best movie in the 21st-century so far (The New York Times). We want to share this important part of African cinematic culture with you, so we are looking forward to seeing many of you there!
