Panel Discussion: Indigenous Resistance in Latin America

✊Panel Discussion: Indigenous Resistance in Latin America✊
Every 12th of October, Día de la Raza is celebrated around the world to commemorate Christopher Columbus’ arrival in the Americas. For centuries, this celebration reflected a colonial legacy of Columbus’ “discovery” of Americas and overlooked the erasure of indigenous cultures and societies.
Together with professors for Latin American Studies, we invite you to discuss how indigenous peoples of Latin America fought to reclaim this celebration, transform it into a call for indigenous rights and decolonial struggle, and rethink the colonial Latin American identity. The discussion will be followed by a Q&A.
🎤Panelists:
•Dr. Soledad Valdivia Rivera, professor at the Institute for History, expert on social movements and plurinational State in Bolivia.
•Dr. Adriana Churampi Ramírez, professor at the Leiden University Centre for the Arts in Society, expert on Andean Indigeneity.
