Conflict in South Asia – Legacies, Violence & Violations

From religious violence to separatist and Maoist insurgency to ongoing boarder disputes – South Asia has seen its fair share of conflict. This legacy of violence has left deep scars on the subcontinent. On Friday, September 21, Dr. Roshni Sengupta will be lecturing on the topic of deconstructing conflicts in South Asia, legacies, violence and violations. This lecture will deal with cross-border disputes, such as the Kashmir conflict, as well as internal political conflicts involving religious violence and insurgencies.

Dr. Roshni Sengupta is a Fellow at the International Institute for Asian Studies, Leiden. She was previously University Lecturer at Leiden Institute for Area Studies. She has a PhD in Political Studies and has one monograph and two edited volumes covering topics dealing with memories and legacies of violence in South Asia and representations of Islam in Bollywood cinema to her credit. She has also written numerous book chapters and journal articles on the subject.
