The BASIS Aca-Com Working groups came about as an idea to further the social cohesion
of our larger social network. Their basic aim is to create a forum where like minded people
can get together to raise awareness on a certain issue that they feel needs to be addressed.
It comes down to offering proactive students who want to work on something with their
colleagues, but do not have the time or desire to commit full time to a committee.
The way that they work is that someone has an idea, or concern, or need that they feel has
to have a light shined on. They then go on to find some colleagues or similarly interested
people on Facebook groups such as BAIS Good Student Bad Student.
Once you have found your fellows, you go onto the Working groups tab on the BASIS
website and go through the application form
What are BASIS AcaCom Working Groups?
- The idea is to learn something new, raise awareness, or something similar, for themselves or for the whole of BASIS through creating a product.
- The main aim of these working groups is built around the values that BASIS as a study organisation stands for. The working groups are offered to bring students together around a topic that they are passionate about, to explore new ideas that remain taboo and to raise awareness on neglected topics.
- The reason that the working groups are being offered is that they allow students to work on an interesting idea, or to further to social cohesion of their network, without having to commit to a full committee for a whole year.
- This would require having a tangible product or idea at the end to show that the working group has achieved something. These can range from booklets, posters, podcasts or texts.
- Examples of topics: Social Rights/ EU-elections/ Student life on a sustainable low budget, University diversity and inclusivity.
Structure and form
- The Working groups come under the supervision of the BASIS Academic Committee, including the funding, general set up and supervision of applications. However, the individual groups are not being supervised by an Academic Committee member.
- This responsible Academic Committee member is available to support the working groups from its creation to its end, in ways such as booking rooms, setting a time schedule, or any unforeseen logistical or advisory issue. This can be done through emailing the general email at academic@basisthehague.nl
- The form can be found on the BASIS website on the tab “Working Groups”.
- The overall topic and the final aim(s)
- A Time frame that you require to finish your product. This time frame can be chosen by the group, but must be explained.
- As this is a test phase there is not that much budget available yet but you can contact the academic committee to discuss if there is the possibility of financial support
- The number of participants: small groups. 4-8 students. This should allow for a more cohesive and productive environment.
