The Rise of Populism in Sri Lanka – Talk with Q&A

15/11/2018 @ 17:00 - 18:30

On October 26th 2018, Asia’s oldest democracy suffered a ‘coup without guns’ as President Maithripala Sirisena fired Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and replaced him with former president Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Rajapaka was/is Sri Lanka’s populist PM who in 2009 ended the decades long civil war with rebels from the Tamil minority. However he has been accused of authoritarian tendencies and human rights abuses.

On Thursday the 15th of November BASIS will be hosting a talk and Question and answer session with Professor Nira Wickramasinghe on the subject of the rise of populism in Sri Lanka. So bring you curiosity and your questions!
